Hyundai A-League impending milestones this weekend

Newcastle Jets skipper Nigel Boogaard could bring up a notable Hyundai A-League milestone this weekend as could Wanderers’ great Brendon Santalab.

Check out their impending landmarks and other potential milestones which could fall in Round 6 action.

NIGEL BOOGAARD

Nigel Boogaard will become the Hyundai A-League’s 23rd double-centurion when he leads the Jets out against his former side Adelaide United late on Saturday afternoon.

The inspirational defender played 55 games across five seasons for Central Coast Mariners before a switch in 2010/11 to the Reds where he played a further 98 times.

In 2015/16, Boogaard joined the Jets, where he’s clocked up a further 46 appearances.

The popular skipper will join – among others – his centre-back partner Nikolai Topor-Stanley and Jets goalkeeper Glen Moss in the 200-club.

THE 50 CLUB

Perth Glory defender Jacob Poscoliero will be hoping to make his first appearance since round two and in doing so, bring up 50 Hyundai A-League games.

Jets utility Nick Cowburn has had limited chances this season, but if he takes the field on Saturday night it’ll also be his 50th appearance in the competition.

Brandon O’Neill is a certainty in the Sydney FC line-up to face the Mariners on Friday night in what would be his 50th Hyundai A-League start.

And if Western Sydney Wanderers can emulate the Sky Blues and beat Melbourne City on Sunday night, it’ll be goalkeeper Vedran Janjetovic’s 50th Hyundai A-League win.

Western Sydney Wanderer Vedran Janjetovic is one of the top five goalkeepers in the Hyundai A-League for FIFA 18.

SANTA’S SUPER-SUB MILESTONE

Wanderers icon Brendon Santalab has made four appearances from the bench this season; if he comes on against Melbourne City and scores twice, he’ll equal Henrique as the most prolific goalscoring substitute with 17.

Sydney FC are close to becoming the third Hyundai A-League side to notch 500 goals, but it would take something spectacular to bring it up this weekend – they are currently on 491.

The Hyundai A-League 2017/18 season had its first goal-less draw last weekend, bringing the all-time total of regular time 0-0 draws to 97.
