There was a host of exceptional individual performances in Round 4 of the Hyundai A-League and we’ve crunched the Opta data to pick the best performing players of the weekend.
Based on a range of metrics provided by the Hyundai A-League’s official data provider, here’s the Team of the Week for Round 4.
GOALKEEPER
Tom Glover (Central Coast Mariners) – The Mariners gloveman was superb against the Victory, making five saves in his side’s 1-1 draw in Gosford. He also had more collections than any other keeper over the weekend.
DEFENDERS
Jason Hoffman (Newcastle Jets) – Coming on as an early substitute for the injured Daniel Georgievski, Hoffman settled straight in. Made 36 passes at an accuracy rate of 83% and had three key passes, the second most of any defender.
Bart Schenkeveld (Melbourne City) – Has made a great start to his City career and was a key figure in their 2-0 win over Adelaide. Finished with a game-high three interceptions, made four clearances and won three fouls in an excellent display.
Iacopo La Rocca (Melbourne City) – Along with his City teammate, La Rocca is a big reason behind his side’s perfect start to the campaign. Against the Reds he made a round-high 14 clearances, and finished with three interceptions.
Scott Neville (Perth Glory) – Against Sydney FC, Neville won all five of his aerial duels and also made 53 passes at an impressive accuracy rate of 83%. Not bad considering he was up against Sky Blues star Milos Ninkovic all evening at Allianz Stadium.
MIDFIELDERS
Roy Krishna (Wellington Phoenix) – What a game from the flying Fijian! Not only did he score a cracking goal and set up another for Andrija Kaludjerovic, but Krishna also contested 19 duels and had two shots from outside the box in the 3-3 draw with Roar.
Wout Brama (Central Coast Mariners) – The Dutchman had his best game in Mariners colours. Brama made 61 passes at an accuracy of 90% in the Mariners’ midfield, while he also won nine of the 10 duels he contested. Super stuff!
Mark Bridge (Western Sydney Wanderers) – Bridge was at his clinical best against the Jets, scoring the Wanderers’ goal with his only shot of the game. He also won a couple of fouls and contested seven duels.
Dimitri Petratos (Newcastle Jets) – Petratos got his name on the scoresheet again for the Jets but he had an excellent all-round game at McDonald Jones Stadium. He created the most scoring chances with four, and also passed at an accuracy rate of 83% from his 42 passes.
STRIKERS
Andrija Kaludjerovic (Wellington Phoenix) – Had a memorable day out against his former club. Kaludjerovic had four shots at goal, the second most of any player, finishing with a classy brace.
Leroy George (Melbourne Victory) – Quickly becoming a fan-favourite at Victory and it’s easy to see why. George scored a sublime free-kick, won 12 of his 16 duels against the Mariners (only Bruce Kamau had more in round four with 14) and had three shots on target.
