After a scintillating F3 derby, hat-trick hero Roy O’Donovan paid tribute to his fellow Newcastle Jets forwards Andrew Nabbout and Dimi Petratos.
Roy O’Donovan scored a first-half hat-trick to cap an incredible return to his former club in front of over 12,000 fans in Gosford.
He also provided an assist for Joe Champness and Petratos to cap a 5-star display by himself and Ernie Merrick’s men.
But the Irish talisman was happy to give his new teammates a pump up after a thrilling derby.
“You want to prove a point against your old team,” he told Fox Sports
“It was a great start and a nice way to introduce myself to the Newcastle fans.
“Nabbout’s power, pace, and Ronnie [Vargas], Dimi [Petratos] were terrific.”
O’Donovan added Jets CEO Lawrie McKinna was integral to him moving up the F3 to Newcastle, praising him for making the deal happen.
And much of O’Donovan’s pre-match banter was just that, he said, praising the Mariners off-season recruitment policy under Paul Okon.
“Great club, I loved my time at the Mariners and it caused a great stir [leaving for Jets], but everything I said before the game was just to sell some tickets.”
The Jets next face Perth Glory at home next week.
