Adelaide United have strengthened their defensive stocks for the Westfield W-League 2017/18 Season with the signing of Jenna McCormick.
McCormick moves to the Reds Women on a one-year deal, having spent the past two seasons representing Canberra United, Stjarnan Women in Iceland in 2016 and Norway’s Medkila in 2017.
She previously played for the Reds between 2012 to ’15, featuring 26 times for the club.
Among her accolades, the Mount Gambier local claimed Adelaide’s Player of the Year Award for an outstanding 2013/14 season and was named player of the tournament for an Australian Schoolgirls tour of South America in 2013.
She also crossed codes to play for the Adelaide Crows in the newly-constructed AFL Women’s competition at the end of the 2016/17 Westfield W-League season.
“Jenna is a talented footballer, which we’ve seen over the last few years through her experience playing both locally and abroad,” Reds boss Ivan Karlović said.
“She is a fantastic athlete and she will be a great inclusion to our squad.
“Importantly, Jenna is a South Australian, so we believe her transition back to the club will be smooth.
“She’s a leader and a competitor and we’re hoping Jenna can use her experience to help improve our squad.”
McCormick said she was delighted to be returning to her hometown club.
“I’m super excited to be coming back home to Adelaide United and to play in red again,” she said.
“It’s great for me to be in my home environment around my family after being overseas for some time.
“Personally I’ve always had goals to reach the next level and to get an opportunity with the national team.
“I believe being with Adelaide, Ivan and the team will give me a good opportunity to achieve those goals.
“With the Reds this year obviously making finals is the main goal and then we will deal with the finals games once we have gotten there.
“But putting in strong consistent performances each week is another focus of mine and I’m hoping to be a strong force in helping the team reach the finals for the first time.”
