Hyundai A-League 2017/18 Season: October diary

Today marks exactly two weeks until the Hyundai A-League 2017/18 Season gets underway with a blockbuster opening round of fixtures.

The opening month has some cracking match-ups and we’ve got all you need to know with our Hyundai A-League October diary!

OPENING WEEKEND

The 2017/18 Hyundai A-League starts with a bang when Melbourne City host Brisbane Roar at AAMI Park on Friday October 6.

The following night, it’s a mouth-watering double header.

The Central Coast Mariners host the Newcastle Jets in 2017/18’s first F3 derby before a repeat of last season’s “Big Blue” Grand Final with Melbourne Victory welcoming reigning champions Sydney FC to Etihad Stadium.

Sunday brings two of the competition’s new coaches head-to-head when Darije Kalezic’s Wellington Phoenix meet Marco Kurz’s Adelaide United at Westpac Stadium.

A bumper first weekend of action is completed at Spotless Stadium with two of last season’s top six Western Sydney Wanderers and Perth Glory doing battle.

DERBY DELIGHT

We don’t have to wait long for the season’s first Melbourne derby with Victory and City meeting at Etihad Stadium on Saturday October 14.

The Saturday night “curtain-raiser” sees Western Sydney at home to Central Coast Mariners.

Brisbane, Newcastle and Sydney FC also host their first home games of the season in week two.

SYDNEY RIVALRY RE-IGNITED

Nearly 62-thousand fans turned up last season to watch Sydney FC get their record-breaking campaign underway with a 4-0 win over Western Sydney Wanderers.

And Allianz Stadium will be bursting at the seams for the first Sydney derby of 2017/18 on Saturday October 21.

Traditional foes Adelaide United and Melbourne Victory reacquaint themselves the previous night at Adelaide Oval in the Reds’ first home game of the season.

Perth fans also get the first look at their side when Glory welcome the Mariners to nib Stadium on Sunday October 22.

ENDING OCTOBER WITH A BANG

The Sky Blues are back at Allianz to kick off week four of the 2017/18 Hyundai A-League against Perth Glory on Friday October 27.

An intriguing Saturday double-header starts in Wellington where the Phoenix host Brisbane before Adelaide United return to Coopers Stadium for the visit of Melbourne City.

Sunday is no less exciting; the Jets welcome NSW neighbours Western Sydney to McDonald Jones Stadium, with the season’s first month wrapped when the Mariners entertain Melbourne Victory.
