In a huge boost for Brisbane Roar ahead of the Westfield W-League season, dynamic Matildas winger Hayley Raso will return to the club for the 2017/18 campaign.
The talented attacker will link up with her new side in mid-October after fulfilling her contract with Portland Thorns FC in the American National Women’s Soccer League.
Raso, who is fresh from helping the Westfield Matildas clean sweep Brazil, returns to the Roar having represented the club between 2013-2015.
The 23-year-old becomes coach Mel Andreatta’s fourth signing after captain Clare Polkinghorne, goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold and Hong Kong International striker Wai Ki Cheung.
Known for her attacking traits in the final third, the Brisbane-born footballer will bring pace, versatility, energy and excitement to the Roar Women’s lineup.
“We’re delighted to welcome Hayley back to Brisbane for the upcoming season,” Andreatta said.
“She will be such a great addition to our team. Hayley is a player who has proven top-level experience and has been in excellent form for Portland and the Australian National Women’s side.
“I am confident that Hayley’s speed will cause opposition defenders plenty of problems this season, not to mention her infectious winning mentality she will bring to our squad.”
Roar’s latest signing began her senior career with Canberra United and was part of their Championship winning 2011/12 side.
Brisbane’s opening round match will be against fierce rivals Sydney FC in a blockbuster clash at Allianz Stadium on Friday, 27 October.
