Ex-Phoenix star thriving in business world

Some players can find it hard to adjust once their playing days are over but former Wellington Phoenix midfielder Tim Brown certainly isn’t one of those.

It was a shock when Brown – at just 31 years of age – called time on his football career at the end of the Hyundai A-League 2011/12 Season to return to his studies.

But is has paid off big time for the ex-All White star with his company Allbirds – a San Francisco-based sneaker startup – going from strength to strength.

Brown co-founded the company in 2015 with Joey Zwillinger.

And just this week it was announced that hedge fund company Tiger Global Management would inject US$17.5M worth of funding into the thriving business.

It’s reported Brown’s brand of sneaker has a huge following in San Francisco, and he plans to use the new money to expand his brand in the US and internationally.
