In a huge blow to Warren Joyce’s side, Fornaroli will undergo surgery in coming days and he appears likely to miss the start of the Hyundai A-League season.
Fornaroli had to be stretchered from the field against Hakoah after suffering a heavy challenge in the first half at Leichhardt Oval.
He caught a taxi to the hospital while the match was still being played to get scans.
The 29-year-old’s absence will be a blow to City, with the Uruguayan scoring 49 goals in just 65 games for the club.
