Adelaide United fullback Ben Garrucio has issued a rallying cry to his team-mates and fans ahead of the final stages of a disappointing Hyundai A-League season.
“We’re not just going to go down without a fight this year,” Garrucio told reporters on Thursday.
“We’re going to play to the very last game, no matter what it means in the league, to finish as high as we can and of course in the ACL to go as far as we can.
“We’ve got six more games and for us it means winning every one if we can,” he said.
PUITTING THINGS RIGHT AGAINST PERTH
Adelaide United host Perth Glory tonight, with memories of a 5-0 hiding at home six weeks ago still fresh.
“It’s never good losing at home by such a scoreline so it’ll be good to get the win, not only for us but for the fans,” said Garrucio.
“Games like that always stick in your memory and not for the right reasons, so it’ll be even sweeter to get the win.
“You want to make things right.”
BABA MAKES HIS MARK
The Reds come into the game high on confidence, having recorded consecutive wins for the first time in 2016/17.
Senegalese striker Baba Diawara has been key, scoring three times in those two victories .
“His English wasn’t so good when he first came but he’s slowly picking it up,” revealed Garrucio.
“It gives him confidence when the boys are getting the ball in the box to him and he’s been scoring and getting his head on things.
“Me personally, I look for him because he’s just that presence in the box and he’s so good at getting up in the air as we saw in the weekend.
“He’s a good character who gets along with all the boys, so he’s fitted in pretty seamlessly and on the field he’s definitely doing his job.”
