Sydney FC demolished Canberra United at Lambert Park with their best performance of the season to win 6-1 on Tuesday.
A brace to Remy Siemsen and goals to Nicola Bolger, Kyah Simon, Francisca Ordega and Leena Khamis guided the Sky Blues to their biggest win of the season as Yukari Kinga got her name on the scoresheet for the visitors.
It was a dominant opening 45 minutes for Sydney FC as their relentless pressing and crisp passing rattled Canberra.
Hayley Raso threatened for the visitors on occasion but possession was limited for the team from the nation’s capital.
Bolger opened the scoring with a long range free kick effort that bounced in at the far post, before Siemsen nabbed a goal 10 minutes later after seeing an earlier effort ruled out for offside, as Sydney FC went in at the break two goals up.
The Sky Blues continued their dominance in the second half and seven minutes after the restart Simon extended the margin as she prodded home past an onrushing Burke in goal.
Siemsen bagged her brace minutes later, tapping into an empty net, before the Sky Blues were reduced to 10 players with 27 minutes remaining as Alanna Kennedy received her marching orders for a second bookable offence.
From the resultant free kick Canberra reduced the deficit as Kinga curled in a neat effort at the near post, however it proved a consolation as Ordega bagged her first goal for the Sky Blues two minutes later as she tapped past Burke after an incisive ball from Khamis played her in.
Lisa De Vanna saw a golden opportunity go begging as she headed over the bar when found un-marked in the penalty area before a series of substitutions disrupted play.
With 10 minutes remaining Khamis added gloss to the scoreline as she toe poked home after Caitlin Foord had cutback from the byline and from there the match was played out with little further chances to either side.
Sydney FC are next in action on Sunday 8 January at the revised location of Allianz Stadium (kick off 2:30pm), while Canberra United face Adelaide United at home on Saturday 7 January (kick off 6pm).
