Defender Hannah Brewer and goalkeeper Georgia Boric have signed on with Canberra United for the upcoming Westfield W-League season.
Brewer arrives at United with a distinguished playing CV having enjoyed spells at Newcastle Jets, Seattle Sounders, Melbourne Victory, Valentine Phoenix and Melbourne City earning a Westfield Matildas call-up, whilst Boric was drafted into the first team squad last season as cover for Melissa Maizels when Lydia Williams was away on international duty.
“It’s fantastic to have signed such an experienced defender like Hannah for season 9,” Head Coach Rae Dower commented.
“With a raft of changes across the squad this year Hannah has fitted in seamlessly to the training environment and already the quality and professionalism of her previous eight years of Westfield W-League experience is showing. Hannah has been around the Matilda’s set up previously and I hope that a really solid season for Canberra United can catapult her again to higher honours.
“Georgia has been around the squad over the last couple of seasons on a training agreement and is another product of the ACTAS / Canberra United player development pathway.
“She’s also done a lot of work over the last couple of years with our Goalkeeping Coach Aroon Clansey and Matilda’s Goalkeeping Coach Paul Jones and is vastly improved in all aspects of the game. Her good form and potential have been recently acknowledged with a call up to the Young Matilda’s training squad.”
Brewer joins the team with a wealth of Westfield W-League experience to draw on and is excited by the challenge of representing the two-time Champions.
“I’m really excited for the opportunity to join and play with Canberra United this coming season,” she said. “I’m looking forward to stepping up to the challenges that come with playing with such a great team as we look to build on the success that Canberra United has had over previous years both on and off the field.”
Boric meanwhile has already had a taster of what’s involved at the top level having sat on the bench for both matches against Western Sydney Wanderers last season as well as getting a run out in the friendly match with Singapore.
“I am so thankful to all the coaches that have helped me get to where I am now. I can’t wait for this season of the W-League, to get involved and show everyone what I’m made of,” Boric said. “I’m so excited for this opportunity.”
Canberra United starts their Westfield W-League season on Saturday 12 November when they take on champions Melbourne City at GIO Stadium in Canberra. The match will also be broadcast live on Fox Sports.
