The Western Sydney Wanderers have today announced the signing of former championship-winning midfielder Steven Lustica on a two year deal.
With over 85 Hyundai A-League caps to his name, the 25-year-old adds further experience to a Wanderers midfield which already includes the likes of Dimas and former teammate Mitch Nichols.
Starting his senior career at Gold Coast United, Lustica spent two seasons playing in Croatia before returning to Australia where he turned out for Brisbane Roar, twice, and Adelaide United.
It was during his stints at Brisbane where the Australian U20 representative tasted his biggest success, playing a key role in the Roar’s 2013/14 Premiership and Championship double.
Lustica said it wasn’t a difficult decision when Tony Popovic came calling.
“It didn’t take a lot of convincing to see what’s happening at the Wanderers: with the set-up there, the club is growing every year and it’s something that I wanted to be a part of,” said Lustica.
“It’s a big honour for me to be part of this club: I’m looking forward to working under Popa and the rest of the staff. It’s really exciting times ahead.”
The midfielder also reserved special praise for Wanderers supporters.
“The Wanderers’ fan base is the best in the league. When I played for Brisbane, the game you most looked forward to was the away match in Western Sydney.
“The atmosphere in the semi-final especially was unbelievable and I’m looking forward to having the best fans in the league behind me.”
