There was barely a dry eye in the house as Victory stalwart Archie Thompson played his final home match for Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park on Tuesday night.
After 11 seasons and more than 250 games for the club, the Hyundai A-League’s greatest ever goal-scorer pulled on a Victory shirt for the final time in Australia last night.
And while there was no fairytale goal as Victory were held to a 1-1 draw against Jeonbuk Motors, the 37-year-old received a moving send off with just over 20 minutes remaining, leaving the veteran in tears.
And the emotion spilled over to social media with fans, footballers and media personalities all paying tribute to one of the Hyundai A-League’s greatest ever players.
