Melbourne City keeper Thomas Sorensen rued a defensive lapse at a key time on Friday night that allowed Adelaide United to take a toe-hold in the Hyundai A-League semi final.
At 1-0 down City were still very much in the game, but a quick free-kick caught the visitors napping and Bruce Kamau burst into the box but was taken down for a penalty by Jack Clisby.
Bruce Djite converted the spot kick, it was 2-0 and the Reds eventually stormed home 4-1 at Coopers to book their spot in next weekend’s grand final against either Wanderers or Roar who play Sunday.

“For the second goal I think we switched off. Is it a penalty? I don’t know but we let it happen and that was a killer in the game,” the Danish keeper told Fox Sports.
“We didn’t play well, we fought hard and even at 2-1 the third goal [conceded] is an easy goal to concede and it’s disappointing.”
City now have fallen short of the grand final two seasons running after losing to Victory in last season’s semi final.
And in Adelaide on Friday night they weren’t able to get star man Bruno Fornaroli on the ball enough while the Reds’ enthusiasm was difficult to stop at a pulsating Coopers.
“We have to be disappointed. We were in this to win. But we’ll regroup for next year where there is another chance then.
“We are entitled to be a little disappointed now but good luck to Adelaide,” added Sorensen.
