Brisbane Roar’s Matt McKay said his side had enough chances to defeat Melbourne Victory on Saturday night, as Adelaide pipped Roar for the Premiers’ Plate on a dramatic night.
The stats back up McKay’s assessment with a 16-2 shots on goal ratio in favour of the Queenslanders in the 0-0 draw against the reigning A-League champions.

Adelaide United were confirmed as winners of the Premiers’ Plate on 49 points, one point more than Roar.
Roar needed three points to guarantee the Hyundai A-League Premiers’ Plate.
However, the 0-0 scoreline seaoled the Reds’ amazing season on a night where nerves and tension ramped up as the game in Melbourne wore on.
“It’s pretty hard [to take]. We had the chances.
“We played a good game. I’m pretty proud of the boys’ effort … I think every single one of us had a chance [to score],” a disappointed McKay told Fox Sports.
The Socceroo also conceded his easy chance in the opening two minutes could’ve been pivotal.
Roar coach John Aloisi said his team fought throughout and created a mountain of chances in front of a large travelling contingent of fans.
“We took it right to the end and the boys gave everything. We can’t question their commitment or belief but it wasn’t to be.
“And we have to congratulate Adelaide United for winning the Premiers’ Plate.”
Roar now must wait for the final result in Wellington between Phoenix and Wanderers on Sunday to see if they finish in the top two – and have the first week off in the Finals Series – or they drop below that and go straight into the Elimination Final next week.
“There’s still a lot to play for. But obviously tonight we’re disappointed we didn’t come away with the Premiers’ Plate,” added Aloisi.
