Jets, Roar set for pivotal TV showdown

Sunday’s final regular-season TV match promises thrilling drama as Newcastle Jets and Brisbane Roar go head-to-head for the fourth and final play-off berth.

Just over a month ago Newcastle very much had the ascendency over their rivals following a 4-0 win in Brisbane.

Now it is the Roar who hold the whip-hand after a string of wins lifted them to fourth, and they are three points clear of both the Jets and Adelaide United who tackle Canberra United on Friday evening.

Adding further to the Jets challenge is the fact they must win by two to overtake the Roar, thus adding an extra layer of complexity to an already tough task.

The Jets have enjoyed little luck in front of the TV cameras this season, drawing in Adelaide before home defeats against Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory.

Will it be fourth time lucky for the Jets? If so, it will be a thrilling way to end a seven-year drought from the play-offs.

The match will be followed by the Hyundai A-League meeting between Newcastle Jets and Wellington Phoenix.

Watch all the action Live from 2.00pm nationally on Fox Sports (Channel 505), or ABC TV. Or catch-up on ABC iView.
