Newcastle Jets launched the club’s Hyundai A-League 2015/16 playing kits in unique fashion on Thursday, collaborating with highly regarded and well known local artist Mitch Revs for a special exhibition on the city’s Harbourside.
The Jets, together with major sponsors Beechwood Homes and Inspirations Paint plus Official Apparel Partner BLK Sport, united with Revs to create a one-hour activation in the idyllic Honeysuckle precinct whereby Revs displayed four paintings of Newcastle Jets players on canvasses.
The creative, caricature-inspired pieces produced by using paint from Inspirations Paint’s Warners Bay store directly reflect three of the club’s 2015/16 season looks, with one painting – that of Serbian midfielder Enver Alivodic – completed live by Revs in front of Jets Members and fans, intrigued passers-by, as well as local media.
The club’s 2015/16 BLK home kit was modelled at the event by Jets defender Nigel Boogaard. The home strip sees a shift away from the vertical red stripes that have been prominent throughout the past four seasons, thereby helping provide the Club with its own identity in the Newcastle sporting market.
However the home kit, featuring Beechwood Homes on the front, does maintain a ‘Jets Blue’ base and feature tonal horizontal stripes. Gold – the colour synonymous with the club’s most successful on field years throughout the Hyundai A-League era – has been included as a feature, as have red accents to ensure that the three core colours in the club’s crest have been utilised.
“We’re confident that our 2015/16 home look will be embraced by Jets Members and fans,” Newcastle Jets interim Chief Executive Officer, Mr David Eland, said. “The players have certainly given the kits their tick of approval from both an aesthetic and functional viewpoint.”
Alivodic sported the club’s overhauled 2015/16 BLK away kit – which is a white base reversal of the club’s home strip and features Inspirations Paint on the front – at Honeysuckle. The simple, yet modern design features the same tonal stripe motif as the home jersey in a subtle grey shade, with blue as a secondary colour.
As with the home kit, red has once again been used on the shoulders and sleeves, while gold trim on the collar and hem complete an exciting new design.
Foundation Newcastle Jets player Labinot Haliti modelled the club’s 2015/16 BLK third kit at the activation. Indeed, following significant Member and fan feedback the Jets have opted to add a third kit with a full gold base to its options for the forthcoming campaign.
The striped theme present on both the home and away strips has also been used on the gold third kit, which will be worn for three Member selected home games throughout the Hyundai A-League 2015/16 season.
“There’s no doubt our gold third kit will prove to be popular with a large segment of our supporter base,” Eland added. “We’ll continue to listen to the opinions of our Members regarding their thoughts on our kit colours, but hope that this season they enjoy being part of the process of selecting the games in which we’ll wear gold again.”
Newcastle Jets goalkeepers Mark Birighitti and Ben Kennedy will have all red, green and black BLK options this campaign. Each goalkeeper shirt features a unique set of stripes in quarters on the front, setting the club’s custodians apart from its outfield players.
The new playing kits are available for pre-order now at shop.newcastlejets.com.au, with delivery in due in late September.
The jerseys will also go on sale in a brand new Official Club Shop later this month. Major sponsor Beechwood Homes will announce details of a special offer on home jerseys to celebrate the shop’s opening.
