Sydney FC, Wanderers win friendly matches

Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers both won friendly matches on Thursday night ahead of their respective Westfield FFA Cup campaigns.

Sydney FC defeated MacArthur Rams 5-1 with trialist and former Mariners striker Matt Simon getting the scoring started after seven minutes.

The Sky Blues fly to Perth on Tuesday next week in preparation for their round of 32 game against Sorrento.

Meanwhile, cross-town rivals Western Sydney Wanderers headed to Popondetta Park on Thursday night to face Mt Druitt Town Rangers.

Former Jets striker James Virgili was one of the trialists as the Red and Black eased past them 3-0. 

New marquee signing Federico Piovaccari was also on hand to meet the fans but did not play.
