Liverpool legend, Robbie Fowler, says the Liverpool FC v Adelaide United match at Adelaide Oval in July is set to be a “magnificent” occasion for football.
With now only hospitality packages available for the match, the game essentially sold out within a matter of hours after tickets going on sale to the public.
As a result of these sales, more than 53,000 people are expected to fill the Adelaide Oval, with Fowler of the strong opinion that the match will be a historic event for South Australian football.
“It’ll be magnificent,” Fowler said.
“The noise that Adelaide Oval will generate will be fantastic. It’ll be a phenomenal atmosphere and one that the players will be delighted with.
“We’re (Liverpool) such an iconic team with good players and with fans coming from everywhere to see us. I think the South Australian people and people that have bought a ticket will be in for a treat, and when people are treated they tend to perform vocally.
“The stadium is sold out and that’s testament to the people of Adelaide and South Australia. (They’re) getting a chance to see a Liverpool team in their own backyard and so far the numbers are excellent and we’ll wait and see when the actual game is here, but everything at the minute is telling us that (the game will set a new attendance record).”
And although the match will be regarded as a ‘pre-season friendly’, Fowler is also convinced that those that will be in attendance for the game will undoubtedly be entertained by the football on show from both sides.
“Both teams like to keep possession (and play) possession based football. On paper, Liverpool will be favourites and Liverpool should win the game, but it’s going to be difficult (so) we’ll wait and see.
“Obviously I’ve witnessed Adelaide United play for a good few years now. I still keep tabs on the Hyundai A-League and I’ve always said that the league was good and a lot better than people would give it credit for.
“But I think the (important) thing is that the fans are entertained and I think we’ve got two footballing sides which will entertain people. I’m so excited and looking forward to it because I’ve played against an Adelaide crowd before and I think they’re an excellent bunch of supporters.”
Liverpool FC will take on Adelaide United in front of a capacity crowd at Adelaide Oval on Monday 20 July 2015.
