Melbourne Victory’s Foxtel National Youth League team was beaten 3-1 by Sydney FC at Lambert Park on Sunday.
Christopher Cristaldo scored Melbourne Victory’s only goal of the contest, with Jordan Tsekenis, Hagi Gligor and Anthony Tomelic finding the net for the home side.
Tsekenis opened the scoring in the fifth minute when he pounced on a loose ball outside the area and guided it past Melbourne Victory goalkeeper Lucas Spinella.
Gligor doubled Sydney FC’s advantage seven minutes later, collecting the ball from George Blackwood on the edge of the area and firing a shot into the roof of the net.
Cristaldo halved the margin shortly after half-time, gathering the ball on the right flank and taking two touches before shooting low and hard past Sydney FC goalkeeper Luke Babic.
With Melbourne Victory searching for an equaliser, Tomelic struck at the other end with a powerful strike that restored Sydney FC’s two-goal advantage in the 59th minute.
The result saw Melbourne Victory slip to eighth on the Foxtel National Youth League ladder, four points adrift of Sydney FC in fourth spot.
