Hyundai A-League rivals to light up Adelaide Oval

Adelaide Oval will host its first Hyundai A-League clash since major renovations when the Reds and Melbourne Victory meet at the iconic venue on Friday night.

The game, broadcast on SBS ONE Harvey Norman Friday Night Football, features two teams with a win apiece who sizzled in round of the Hyundai A-League.

And with the rivalry showing no signs of abating, the famous venue located within walking distance of the Adelaide CBD is set to be packed for this marquee clash.

“We prepare for the game the same as we do for all the other teams, but we know in our mind it’s more important than normal,” said Reds midfielder Marcelo Carrusca.

And despite a short turnaround, Reds attacking defender Craig Goodwin believed Gombau’s men will be running on emotion for a team most pundits are tipping for the title.

“It was a fantastic result to beat (Brisbane on Sunday) on the opening day, but because it’s such a short turnaround we can’t think to much about the win.

“We have to focus on Melbourne Victory and it’s going to be a very tough game. Everyone saw how they went, winning 4-1, but we just have to do our best to prepare during the week.

“Being a local boy, I’ve sat in the stands and watched these games quite often, so I know what it’s all about and I’m sure all of the other guys do as well.”

It’s not the first time the Reds have played at the famous venue since the renovation with the club hosting Malaga in a pre-season game in July.

“Adelaide Oval has been specifically designed for a myriad of sports including soccer, cricket, and AFL,” an spokesperson told www.a-league.com.au

“We’re really looking forward to hosting Adelaide United’s first home game of the Hyundai A-League season against Melbourne Victory.”

The venue has 50,083 seats and standing room for a further 3500 and it features three giant replay screens – two in the southern pockets of the ground and a screen in the north.

“We’re excited about showing off the stadium’s versatility and the quality of the ground and facilities to what could be a crowd in excess of 30,000

“The stage is set for a sensational game this Friday night,” added the spokesperson.
