Sky Blues a ‘no brainer’ for Janjetovic

Vedran Janjetovic is a self-confessed “westie” in every sense of the word but for the Sydney FC shot stopper there was only ever one club on his mind when he began seeking a professional career.

Janjetovic was a member of Sydney FC’s inaugural Foxtel National Youth League squad in 2008/09 that claimed the double in their first season, and held talks with the Wanderers in 2012 before ultimately signing with Sky Blues in a decision he says was a no-brainer.

“I chose Sydney FC simply because they gave me my chance,” he said.

“I’ve been training with them since the first day they were established so I always saw that as my club and supported the team when I was younger, so it was a no brainer for me to be honest.

“Going forward they gave me opportunities with the youth team so I was always going to stay here,” he continued.

“I’m happy with the decision I made.  I wouldn’t change it, I wouldn’t change anything that I’ve done, I made the right decision for me and my career.”

While Janjetovic is happy at the Sky Blues, living in the suburb of Cecil Hills sees him seated firmly in Western Sydney Wanderers territory.  However the Sydney FC custodian isn’t fazed by the ire of Wanderers supporters he receives in his suburb, saying he enjoys the banter.

“Living out west I cop a bit of stick to be honest,” he said.

“Whenever I’m going around the shops and stuff I see people wearing their jerseys, while I’m getting stares and comments on twitter.

“It’s alright I suppose, it’s part and parcel of it all and I just laugh it off.”

Sydney FC kick off the first Sydney Derby of the season at home to the Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday 18 October.  Gates open at Allianz Stadium at 5:30pm with the match kicking off at 7:30pm.
