Pedj Bojic says he’s excited about his partnership with fellow ex-Mariner Bernie Ibini down Sydney FC’s right-hand side, a combination he says has an almost telepathic quality.
“It’s one of those things where you don’t have to think, you just know where each other is,” Bojic told www.a-league.com.au of his combination with the striker.
“It’s a great feeling to have, you can’t build on something like that if it happens, it happens.
“That real natural understanding is great to have, we work for another and we’re not selfish to one another.
“We had a great combination, probably one of the strongest in the league (at the Mariners).”
While the start of the season is just under a month away, Bojic says he already has one eye on the opening round fixture with Melbourne City and Spanish superstar David Villa.
“I’ll give him a nice little welcome to Australia,” Bojic said with a smile.
“You want to come up against the best. It’s going to be a fantastic game and hopefully we have a massive crowd.
“The most important thing is we play great football, do what we believe in and get the win. Bring it on!”
Another driving force, Bojic said, is changing the perception he is an injury-plagued player.
The attacking right-back was seen as a major signing for the Sky Blues last season after becoming one of the Hyundai A-League’s most consistent defenders at the Central Coast.
But the 2013-14 campaign didn’t go to plan for the 30-year-old, who managed just 12 appearances as his season was cut-short by a painful back problem.
“It was a season to forget. My first year at Sydney probably gave the impression that I was an injured player which is not a good thing.
“I want to show to Sydney FC that the player I was supposed to be when I came here was the player that left the Mariners.
“Hopefully I can get back to that and prove to them and myself that I’m capable of not only playing at that level again but even higher.
“After back surgery I’m pretty much almost at 100 per-cent fitness.”
