Canberra United, Perth Glory, Sydney FC and Newcastle Jets all opened the Westfield W-League season in winning fashion.
Canberra United were the biggest victors easing to a 4-1 win over a youthful Western Sydney Wanderers with help from a Michelle Heyman double.
Fellow Matildas striker Kate Gill also scored twice as a new-look Perth Glory claimed an impressive 2-1 victory over perennial title challengers Brisbane Roar.
Sydney FC’s new American striker Jasmyne Spencer also took a share of top spot in the fledgling top goalscorers list with her double lifting the Sky Blues to a 2-0 win over a hard-working Adelaide United.
Saturday’s only game saw Newcastle Jets edge last year’s champions Melbourne Victory 1-0 with the reinvented home side flying high after failing to claim a win all last season.
