The Hyundai A-League could be back on the radar of Joel Chianese after the former Sydney FC striker missed out on a contract with Swindon Town, despite scoring twice in a friendly.
Chianese had been trialing with the League One outfit since last month in the hope of securing a contract after being released by the Sky Blues at the end of the last Hyundai A-League season.
With Socceroos Massimo Luongo and Brad Smith already at the club, Chianese was hoping to join his compatriots as the Robins chase promotion to the English Championship.
Despite scoring twice for the club’s development side in a 4-2 friendly loss to Cheltenham Town last week, the 24-year-old didn’t do enough to impress and earn a full-time contract.
“I think when you look at triallists, they have to be better than what we’ve got and I just didn’t quite feel he (Chianese) was at that level,” Swindon boss Mark Cooper said on BBC Wiltshire’s fan’s phone-in (http://www.flicwiltshire.com/stfc).
While Chianese was hopeful of continuing his career abroad, he could again try his luck in the Hyundai A-League.
The pacy winger debuted for Sydney back in 2011 and scored 11 goals for the club in just 40 appearances.
He endured a mixed campaign for the Sky Blues last season, scoring four times in 18 games but also missing a number of matches through injury.
