Melbourne Victory’s pre-season campaign will continue in September, with a match against Sydney FC at North Hobart Oval on Sunday, September 28.
Victory will arrive in Tasmania for a pre-season tour; spending five days in Hobart from Wednesday, September 24. The tour will be packed with community activities, school visits and public appearances, before finishing off with a double-header at North Hobart Oval.
The best players from Tasmania’s Victory League will line up for Tasmania against Melbourne Victory’s Foxtel National Youth League squad at 12:15pm, before the all A-League clash between Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC from 3pm.
“It is great to be bringing an A-League match into the heart of our capital city and we are really spoiled to be hosting one of the national competition’s fiercest rivalries,” Football Federation Tasmania CEO Mike Palmer said.
“There will be no excuses for sports fans not to head out to one of Hobart’s most iconic sporting venues and watch some of the finest footballers in the land play the world game in Hobart.
“Tasmanians are starved of fixtures like this so it is a big opportunity for local football fans to show their support for A-League in Hobart and flock to North Hobart.”
This is Melbourne Victory’s third straight pre-season tour and is part of the A-League club’s long-term partnership with Football Federation Tasmania, which includes the sponsorship of the state’s flagship football competition, the Victory League.
“We are excited to be coming back to our home-away-from-home, Tasmania,” Melbourne Victory CEO Ian Robson said.
“The week in Tasmania is a big part of our pre-season preparations. Not only do we see it as a great chance for our squad to spend time together and prepare for a huge Hyundai A-League season, but it also provides us with a terrific opportunity to engage with the local community and gives aspiring Tasmanian football fans a chance to meet their heroes.
Last year, Melbourne Victory was part of a similar double-header at Kingston Twin Ovals, where a crowd of more than 5,000 packed in to see Melbourne Victory triumph over Western Sydney Wanderers.
“Last year was a great success and we look forward to facing one of our biggest rivals in Sydney FC in the centre of Hobart, we hope to see a big crowd out to support the event,” Robson said.
