Toppling the star-studded Juventus will be the focus when the Hyundai A-League’s best players – the Foxtel A-League All Stars – assemble for their training camp in Wollongong tomorrow (Friday) ahead of the August 10 clash with the Italian champions.
In preparation, Foxtel A-League All Stars and Adelaide United coach Josep Gombau will put the stars of the Hyundai A-League through a series of training sessions as well as a friendly against the Young Socceroos in Wollongong on Tuesday 5 August at WIN Stadium.
The Foxtel All Stars team includes Alessandro Del Piero, Thomas Broich, Besart Berisha and Gui Finkler while Juventus boats the likes of Andrea Pirlo, Gianluigi Buffon, Patrice Evra and recently crowned FIFA World Cup U21 player of the tournament Paul Pogba.
The Foxtel A-League All Stars players will also spend time in the community, visiting football clubs and schools in both Sydney and Wollongong, starting tomorrow morning (Friday) with a visit to the Mt Terry Public School in Albion Park on the NSW South Coast.
Sydney FC and All Stars striker Bernie Ibini will take part in the school clinic at Mt Terry Public School and be available for media interviews at the school before joining the rest of his team mates in camp in Wollongong at lunchtime.
Meanwhile, Massimiliano Allegri’s reign as Juventus coach is still awaiting its first win after the Italian champions were held to a 0-0 pre-season friendly draw with Cesena on Thursday (AEST).
In their last hit-out before heading off on their tour of Indonesia and Australia, the Bianconeri failed to reach any great heights against the newly-promoted Cesena.
Italian international Andrea Pirlo went closest to scoring in the first half, testing ‘keeper Nicola Leali with two efforts in the first 15 minutes.
But Juve struggled in attack without star striker Carlos Tevez, who had returned home after his father was kidnapped in Argentina. He has since been released and Tevez is expected to link up again with the squad for their tour.
Juventus head to Australia next week ahead of their highly-anticipated clash with the Foxtel All Stars at ANZ Stadium on August 10. Pirlo, Tevez, Paul Pogba, Patrice Evra, Gianluigi Buffon and Claudio Marchisio headline a star-studded squad to take on the Hyundai A-League’s best.
