Perth Glory have announced the signing of Diogo Ferreira on a two year deal from 2013/14 Hyundai A-League Champions Brisbane Roar.
The 24-year-old defensive midfielder is the third player signed by Head Coach, Kenny Lowe, during the off season and is considered a valuable addition to Glory’s playing squad, as the club looks to strengthen its ranks for the upcoming 2014/15 Hyundai A-League season.
Victorian born Ferreira, who came through Portuguese giants, FC Porto-s youth academy, joined Melbourne Victory in 2010 and went on to make 52 appearances for the club, scoring twice, before moving to Roar in 2013.
Whilst his opportunities were limited at Brisbane, he still managed 11 appearances during this season-s successful campaign with his last game being the round 25 win over Melbourne Heart in March.
Ferreira, who has also represented his country seven times at U-23 level, is looking forward to meeting up with his new team mates when Glory-s pre-season commences in mid-June.
When asked about the move the 24 year old said “I-m excited to take on this new challenge with Perth Glory and I believe this move is a very important and timely one for me.”
“I like what the Club is looking to achieve this season, what it is doing to strengthen its squad and its coaching structures” he added.
“It was a great experience to be a part of a Championship winning side at Brisbane, however, having spoken to Kenny Lowe, I’ve gained a good insight into the ambitions of the Club, the players that he is close to signing and I believe it-s a great opportunity for me to now be part of a team that will be challenging at the top of A-League ladder in the coming seasons.”
Diogo Ferreira joins Dino Djulbic and Youssouf Hersi as Head Coach, Kenny Lowe’s, first new signings during the 2014/15 A-League off season. Further new player signings are anticipated to be announced over the coming two weeks.
