Fox Sports News are reporting that Newcastle Jets and Gary van Egmond have mutually agreed to terminate the coach’s contract effective immediately.
It was reported by Fox Sports News that The Advertiser had learnt that Van Egmond will be replaced by former Socceroo forward, Clayton Zane.
Zane is currently the Jets Foxtel National Youth League coach and will take over as Head Coach for the remainder of the Hyundai A-League season.
The Advertiser is also reporting that Michael Bridges will add the role of assistant coach to that of his playing duties and that Van Egmond’s current assistant Craig Deans, will be offered Zane’s job as head coach of the National Youth League squad.
Newcastle has won only one of their past six games and gained one point from their past four matches, mostly recently going down 3-1 to Melbourne Heart on Friday night.
Van Egmond has coached the Jets twice, memorably winning the 2008 Grand Final against Central Coast Mariners before leaving in 2009 to coach at the Australian Institute of Sport. He returned for a second spell in charge prior to the start of the 2011/12 season.
