De Vanna is one of ten players short-listed for the FIFA Puskas award, with the winner to be announced at the FIFA Ballon d-Or 2013 Gala on January 13.
The Perth-born striker is in heady company alongside some of world football-s household names including Neymar, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Antonio Di Natale.
De Vanna was nominated after netting with a spectacular bicycle kick in June while playing for Sky Blue FC in this year-s inaugural season of the US-based National Women-s Soccer League.
“I-m very honoured to have made FIFA-s shortlist of ten candidates for goal of the year,” De Vanna said. “Some amazing and incredible goals and it-s a privilege to be on the list as the other nine players.”
De Vanna has been a member of the Westfield Matildas since 2004 and has featured at two FIFA Women-s World Cup, with her four goals at China 2007 leading to inclusion in the FIFA Women-s World Cup All-Star team.
The winner will collect the award named after Ferenc Puskas, the Hungarian goalscoring great of the 1950s. The ‘Galloping Major- had a strong connection to Australia having coached South Melbourne over two seasons, winning the National Soccer League in 1991.
The award winner is determined by popular vote and fans have the opportunity to vote once until December 9 when a final short-list of three will be determined.
