Western Sydney Wanderers and Adelaide United have fought out a tense 1-1 draw in their Foxtel National Youth League clash at Marconi Stadium on Sunday.
In hot conditions, a second-half goal from Adelaide-s Jordan Elsey was cancelled out by a Lawrence Hanna strike for the home side.
It leaves both sides still looking for their first wins of the season.
This first half was a quiet affair with both sides lacking polish in the final third, and neither keeper called on to make anything other than routine saves.
Many of the Wanderers- half chances centred around the play of Joshua Sotirio.
Sotiro started on the right wing found space after 14 minutes only to have his cross cleared away by a back-peddling defence.
Ten minutes later Sotiro found himself in space just outside the area after a clever interchange of Wanderers passing but his shot sailed wide of the post.
The best chance of the first half belonged to Adelaide and came after 35 minutes.
Bruce Djite deftly brought down a cross with his chest on the penalty spot only to have his shot deflected over the cross bar.
Adelaide went close to opening the scoring just two minutes into the second half. Anthony Ture split open the home side-s defence but was denied by a fine leg save by Jerrad Tyson in the Wanderers- goal.
On 57 mintues, the game exploded into life with Adelaide taking the lead.
A neat touch from Bruce Kamau bought him some space in the area. He rolled the ball into the path of Elsey who slotted the ball into the bottom right hand corner past the outstretched hand of Tyson.
The lead would be short-lived however with the Wanderers back on level terms just two minutes later.
Hanna broke the offside trap with a well-timed run before calmly finishing edging the shot past John Hall in the Adelaide goals.
With 12 minutes to go the Wanderers- Mark Cindric had two chances in the space of a minute to put the home team in front.
Cindric found himself one on one with Hall only to push his shot wide of the target, and in an identical situation some 30 seconds later, Cindric put his shot on target only to be denied by a sharp save from the Adelaide keeper.
The Wanderers pushed hard for the winner in the closing stages, but were ultimately unable to break the deadlock.
