New Melbourne Heart FC signing Michael Mifsud has promised to make an impact with his new club, with the Maltese striker aiming to translate his goal-scoring record for his country to the Red and White.

Mifsud, who touched down in Melbourne from Europe yesterday, is Malta-s all-time scorer with 37 goals in 99 appearances and is excited about the challenge with his new club.

“I-m here to play football and help the team and show people what I am capable of,” Mifsud said.

“I am here to work; I-m not here just to relax. I know Australian football is doing well and it-s a good level so I need to work hard as well.

“I-m a goal scorer, that-s what I do best.”

When asked whether he was here to win the A-League with Melbourne Heart, Mifsud replied emphatically; “Of course.”

“I had the opportunity to come over here and I think it is a nice adventure for me to play in Australia,” Mifsud said.

“It-s a good level league, it-s always improving year by year and of course I took that into consideration.

“I had a really warm welcome from the team and from the Club… [and] the lads; they-re all nice and bubbly you know, so it-s always nice to have an atmosphere like that.”

While Mifsud agreed the Hyundai A-League would present an interesting challenge, the striker, who stands at 5-5” is confident he would not be troubled by the competition-s physicality.

“I-ve played in Norway, which is quite physical, and England, which is quite physical as well – ok I am small – but I-m quite strong,” Mifsud said.

Melbourne Heart FC Head Coach John Aloisi said Mifsud-s energy and enthusiasm would help him fit into the team-s structure.

“I saw the runs that he makes as a striker, they are the runs I-m looking for,” Aloisi said.

“He-s very quick, he-s direct, and in the box you can see he-s a goal-scorer.”
