A late goal from Kwame Yeboah proved the match winner as Brisbane Roar defeated Melbourne Victory 1-0 in a pre-season fixture at North Ipswich Reserve.
The Roar enjoyed the lion-s share of possession throughout the afternoon but couldn-t break through until the 83rd minute.
The away side had the first real opportunity of the match but Victory striker Andrew Nabbout sent the ball high after rounding Brisbane goalkeeper Michael Theo.
But the Roar enjoyed most of the attacking chances of the first half with the Victory relying strongly on their counter attacks.
There were screams for a Roar penalty when Besart Berisha came crashing down in the box but the cries were in vein and the score remained at nil all at the break.
Berisha caused a few headaches for the Victory defence but his half chances at goal were handled well by opposition goalkeeper Nathan Coe.
A number of near misses had frustrated Kwame Yeboah all afternoon but in the dying minutes he was able to smartly control a chipped ball, before curling the ball past the out stretched Victory keeper to break the deadlock.
The striker-s relief at finally scoring was evident as he showed off his acrobatic skills in celebration.
The win continues the Roar-s fine preseason form, after recent victories over Central Coast Mariners and Melbourne Heart.
Over 2,500 fans were in attendance at North Ipswich Reserve – an impressive number considering the match coincided with a number of major sporting finals throughout the city.
