Canberra United have announced the signing of USA international midfielder Lori Lindsey.
Canberra United is delighted to announce the signing of experienced USA international midfielder Lori Lindsey for the 2013/14 Westfield W-League season. Lindsey will join the club for Season Six in the national competition following in the line of a number of her US colleagues.
A combative midfield presence with an eye for the astute pass, Lindsey joins United-s roster from Washington Spirit having previously spent playing time at Indiana Blaze, San Diego Spirit, Washington Freedom, Philadelphia Independence and Western New York Flash. Her international career began with the USA under-16 team and progressed through under-17 and under-21 level before she made her full international debut for the USA as a substitute in 2005 against Iceland.
Since then Lindsey has gathered 31 caps to her name and netted her debut international goal in a 6-0 thumping of Guatemala in Vancouver, Canada as part of the 2012 CONCACAF Women-s Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Having played one match in the 2011 FIFA Women-s World Cup in Germany, the US beat Colombia 3-0, Lindsey was named as an alternate player for the US 2012 Olympic Women-s Team that won Gold in London.
“We are absolutely delighted to welcome a player of Lori-s quality to Canberra United,” CEO Heather Reid commented. “Her qualities are well known and her experience will be a huge bonus to the Canberra squad as they prepare for Season Six of the Westfield W-League. I am sure that Lori will be a big hit with the supporters and look forward to welcoming her into the Canberra United squad.”
Lindsay will arrive in Canberra in September as preparations for the Westfield W-League season begins in earnest. United will play Brisbane Roar in Queensland in the opening round of the competition on Saturday 9th November.
