All Stars honoured to be selected

The first three All Stars selected for the match against Manchester United have expressed their delight at being involved in the inaugural fixture.

Speaking at the launch of the A-League All Stars, the first three players selected for the match against Manchester United have expressed their delight at being involved in the inaugural fixture.

Sydney FC midfielder Brett Emerton, Western Sydney Wanderers defender Nikoloai Topor-Stanley and Brisbane Roar midfielder Thomas Broich were all honoured to be picked in the All Stars team and looking forward to tackling the reigning English Premier League Champions.

Emerton said he was eager to test himself against superstars he use to play on a weekly basis when playing in the EPL and demonstrate how competitive the A-League has become.

“It means a lot to represent the A-League and show people in Australia and around the world how far the A-League has come,” said Emerton.

One of the fans favourites Topor-Stanley continued his spectacular season with selection in central defence, where he could be tasked with marking the likes of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie.

“It-s a dream come true. I-ve supported Manchester United ever since I was a little kid and now to be lining up and competing against them is unbelievable, said Topor-Stanley.

The Roar-s Thomas Broich was similarly modest when talking about his selection, the German midfielder saying he was most looking forward to lining up alongside the legendary Alessandro Del Piero.

“It-s a privilege to be selected in this team and I-m really looking forward to playing with some world-class players,” said Broich.

The first three selections in the All Stars team were all subject to a rigorous selection process that involved votes from the fans, an expert panel as well as the input of Coach Ange Postecoglou.

The Foxtel A-League All Stars will play Manchester United at ANZ Stadium in Sydney on Saturday 20th July.
