Calvano, a regular in the line-up in the previos season has struggled to get much game-time in Gary van Egmond’s revamped side and with more football at Sydney a possibility was granted his release.
Jets CEO Robbie Middleby thanked Calvano for the positve attitude he brought to the Hunter club.
“We are very grateful for everything that Tiago has done for the Newcastle Jets, both on and off the field,” Middleby said.
“While we have decided to go our separate ways, we-re happy that he has been able to secure a contract at Sydney FC.
“Tiago is a talented footballer and a great person who still has plenty to offer.
“It is pleasing he has joined Sydney FC and will remain in the A-League for at least the remainder of this season.”
Jets coach Gary van Egmond thanked Calvano for his contribution to the Jets.
“Tiago has shown great leadership during his time at the Jets and he has contributed significantly to the culture we are building at the Jets,” van Egmond said.
“He has been excellent in regards to his mentoring of the younger players, especially some of the ones coming through now.
Calvano will begin training with Sydney FC immediately.
