Western Sydney Wanderers FC coach Tony Popovic wants his players to make sure Emile Heskey has a “quiet night” on Saturday.
The Wanderers host Newcastle Jets at Parramatta Stadium and the A-League’s newcomers will be looking to make it three wins on the trot.
While Popovic has no special plans to stop Heskey – who’s been on top form in front of goal this season – he has spoken to his players about the threat of Newcastle’s marquee player.
“You prepare well for every opponent and opposition,” Popovic said.
“We certainly make the players aware of Emile’s strengths and we’ll do our best to make it a quiet night for him tomorrow.
“From our point of view we just need to worry about our performance and make sure that our structure is right,” he said.
“If we can do that, we give ourselves a good chance of winning the game.”
Back-to-back victories over Brisbane and Melbourne Heart mean the Wanderers will head into Saturday’s match as favourites, but Popovic insists it’s business as usual at the Western Sydney club.
“It’s nothing different from our end,” Popovic said.
“We haven’t changed anything in our preparation, our structure or our build-up from the first game until now.
“The boys are doing well and they’ve shown that in the last couple of games results-wise, but performance-wise we’ve been pleased from the outset.”
Popovic reported no injury concerns ahead of the Jets clash.
