Former Socceroo Scott Chipperfield has joined Illawarra Premier League side Tarrawanna on a short-term deal.

Chipperfield is set to return to Australia once his contract with club side Basel runs out in June.

The 34-year-old enjoyed a thrilling end to his time in Europe, completing the league and cup double with the Swiss side, as well as knocking Manchester United out of the UEFA Champions League.

Chipperfield has signed with Tarrawanna in the short-term ahead of an expected move to an Hyundai A-League club, with both Sydney FC and the new club for western Sydney reported to be interested but said he would be happy to play with the local side if a contract doesn’t arrive.

‘‘If I don-t pick up a contract with the A-League then I-ll play until the end of the season,– he told the Illawarra Mercury.

‘‘It-s all up in the air at the moment, but I-m pretty confident I can play a couple of games [for Tarrawanna].–
