Newcastle Jets coach Gary van Egmond continues to build his youthful team of the future with the club moving quickly to extend the contract of in-form defender Taylor Regan until the end of the 2013/14 season.

Regan has been outstanding in the defensive line for the Jets this season and obviously plays a major part in van Egmond’s plans for the future which involves a high-paced possession-based game.

The fact that he is a local junior that has come through the Jets ranks adds to the 23-year-old’s value to the Newcastle club.

“I love what Taylor brings to the team and his communication in particular is outstanding,” van Egmond said.

“Taylor also embodies everything Newcastle. He loves the Club and the town. He enjoys the beach lifestyle. He has his family and friends close by. He has always been a Jets and Knights supporter.”

Regan said he was delighted to secure his future with the club.

“I have been able to get more game time this season and I am enjoying playing under Gary van Egmond,” he said.

“I have grown up in Newcastle, I love Newcastle and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”
