Hyundai A-League chief Lyall Gorman says Perth Glory owner Tony Sage is not about to walk away from the Western Australia club, despite Sage publicly stating his intention to leave at the end of the season.
Sage, who took over Perth in 2007 as part of a partnership before taking sole control in 2009, told the West Australian that he was subjected to personal abuse after Glory lost to Melbourne Heart last weekend, and that after another seemingly frustrating season at nib Stadium, he was ready to walk away from Glory after four years.
“I’m disappointed, upset, angry,” Sage said. “This will be my last season in charge of Perth Glory.”
However, after talking with Sage, Gorman insists the mining entrepreneur-s comments were said in the heat of the moment and that he remains committed to the club.
“We-ve spoken to Tony Sage and now understand that the comments came in the aftermath of a frustrating loss,” Gorman said.
“Tony is a passionate and committed owner who wants success for his club, the fans and the football community of Western Australia.
“Like many football fans he wears his heart on his sleeve and showed some emotion following Saturday night-s result, but we are sure that Perth Glory with Tony Sage at the helm will remain a big part of the A-League.”
