After a rocky spell, Adelaide United go into this Friday night clash with Newcastle Jets on the back of some really decent form.

United’s good run of form could have been even better, as they were just minutes away from picking up a win in New Zealand last week.
Heading for a very impressive 1-0 victory, having silenced the large Auckland crowd with Bruce Djite’s first-half finish, their hopes of three points were only scuppered by an unfortunate headed own-goal from Nigel Boogaard five minutes from time.
Still, the performance was strong and Rini Coolen’s men did a fine job of keeping a 20,000-strong crowd quiet in what was Eden Park’s first ever Hyundai A-League match.
They will now look to build on this solid display – and the two which preceded it – and continue their decent run of results against Newcastle Jets. If they show the commitment, passion and spirit that they did last time round at Hindmarsh – when an Iain Ramsay beauty was the decisive goal in three – they stand every chance of coming away with the points.
While they have suffered two losses on the bounce, Newcastle Jets will head to Hindmarsh confident they can pick up a result.
Although their last road trip was very disappointing indeed – a stuffing at the hands of Melbourne Heart – Saturday’s game against Brisbane will have offered them more encouragement. Sure, they fell to defeat, but losing to Roar is hardly a crime and their display offered lots of positives.
The Jets denied their visitors the chance to dominate the game, and created good chances themselves. After Ryan Griffiths had earlier almost given his side the lead in the first period, he went one better on the stroke of half-time.
Had their strong start to second-half resulted in a deserved goal, it would have been hard for Roar to come back, but the Jets couldn’t find the killer strike and Brisbane eventually turned the game on its head with two sucker punches, which left the Squadron devastated.
With both Adelaide and Newcastle having shown real signs of promise but also vulnerability and inconsistency, this game has the potential to go either way.
Will United keep their unbeaten run going or can the Jets fire their way back into the kind of form that rocketed them up to second-place on on the ladder a couple of weeks ago?
