Melbourne Heart v Sydney FC
Saturday 29th October, 7.45pm
Sing your Heart out! Get behind your Melbourne heroes as they seek their first win of the season.
Melbourne Heart might still be searching for their first victory of the Hyundai A-League 2011/12 campaign, but they’ll be confident that they stand a decent chance of picking up three points on Saturday, following a fine performance in the derby draw last weekend.
And you can play your part in helping your players retain the momentum gained in the stalemate with their nearest rivals by getting along in numbers to AAMI Park on Saturday night. It’s easy to create an atmosphere in a cross-city derby amongst 39,000 other fans, but it is just as important to do so week in, week out. So, get a ticket and get ready to show your support!
Not only did Heart secure their first point against Victory but, were it not for some fine goalkeeping from Ante Covic, they could have emerged with the win. Mate Dugandzic, playing against his old team on his 22nd birthday, almost scored early and late in the game, while Alex Terra, Michael Marrone and David Williams also went close.
If they create similar chances on Saturday, there is every chance Heart will be celebrating their first win at the final whistle.
However, they come up against a Sydney team brimming with confidence following their fantastic away win last Saturday. 1-0 down at half-time to Adelaide, and having not scored a goal in the Hyundai A-League 2011/12 season, it seemed like being another miserable night for Sky Blues fans, but second-half goals from Jamie Coyne and Nicky Carle gave them a hugely impressive come-from-behind victory.
You would perhaps have forgiven Sydney for dropping their heads at a goal down to a fine side, but they kept on believing and, after Coyne’s powerful strike, pushed on for the win, which came about through Carle’s neat angled-finish.
The result gives a very different look to Sydney’s prospects. From no wins and no goals in two, they will now be talking about how they have only lost once this season – to Brisbane – and are unbeaten away from home. What a difference one half of football can make!
The only downside for Sydney was that Brett Emerton was forced from the field in the 64th minute with a pulled hamstring. Vitezslav Lavicka will be hoping he is back in action sooner rather than later. However, Mark Bridge, Liam Reddy and Shannon Cole are available for selection this weekend.
Heart have yet to win and Sydney are unbeaten on the road in the Hyundai A-League 2011/12 season, so it’s more important than ever for the Red and White faithful to turn up and show unbridled passion and support for 90 minutes.
Turn AAMI Park into a cauldron of noise as these two sides battle for the points. Who will emerge successful in this Saturday night stunner? Grab a ticket today and find out!
