The Newcastle Jets have announced their second major signing in two days with the news talented forward Marko Jesic has re-signed with the club for the next two seasons.
Jesic, who is the club’s leading scorer this season with four A-League goals, has been a priority signing for the Jets and his retention comes just a day after the club re-signed key defender Nikolai Topor-Stanley.
Jets Chief Executive Officer John Tsatsimas said the club was excited about the coming seasons as they continue to build their player roster.
“Our future is really looking bright, as we have made some strong re-signings in the past weeks and we will continue to build our list with quality players that will give us every opportunity to challenge for honours next season,” Tsatsimas said.
“It was really important that we re-signed Marko. He has exhibited that he is not only a talented young player but also a mentally tough competitor after the adversity he has been through with injury and forms a vital cog in our wheel as we progress.”
Jesic played his junior career with Marconi in Sydney’s west but went through the NSWIS and AIS systems before being signed by the Jets in 2008 as a talented teenager.
However, three knee reconstructions in his time with the Jets hampered his progress until he emerged this season fully fit to claim a regular starting role and show a glimpse of his potential.
The 21-year-old said he was delighted to extend his stay in Newcastle.
“I consider Newcastle my second home, it is a great City to live in and a great Club to represent,” Jesic said.
“There is no place I would rather be. I am really excited about being here for the next two seasons and really looking forward to our future.”
