North Queensland Fury will be looking to bounce back against Melbourne Victory on Wednesday after their record 8-1 loss to Adelaide United.
With their finals hopes gone, the past few weeks have been about salvaging pride, but the Fury are yet to achieve that with disappointing results, especially against the Gold Coast and Adelaide.
North Queensland captain Ufuk Talay was obviously disappointed with the result but was glad they have the chance to redeem themselves in front of a home crowd.
“It’s just disappointing to lose a game like that. No player goes out there to lose a game that way. But I think yesterday’s training went quite well and we well go out there against Melbourne on Wednesday to hopefully resurrect things,” he said.
North Queensland goalkeeper Justin Pasfield said that the best thing to do going into a tough game against Melbourne was to forget the loss to Adelaide.
“We have totally forgotten about Friday’s result. I just think that’s the best thing we can do, put that out of our minds and really concentrate on Wednesday,” he said.
“We’ve got the Melbourne Victory. They’re going all guns blazing at the moment because they need the points.”
However, Pasfield believed the game would be made slightly easier with the absence of Victory captain Kevin Muscat, out of the game after receiving a red card against the Heart last week.
“They’re missing Muscat so I think that is a big downfall for them. They’ll miss him,” he said.
Despite the absence of Muscat, Melbourne Victory will need to fight hard for the three points and to keep their position in the top six with the Newcastle Jets, Wellington Phoenix and Melbourne Heart breathing down their neck.
