North Queensland will follow in the footsteps of Gold Coast by offering fans free admission to the Fury’s home match against Wellington Phoenix next Monday.
Gold Coast owner Clive Palmer opened the doors for United’s home match against Central Coast on Sunday and despite shocking weather that ultimately caused the match to be abandoned over 10,000 fans still turned up in an encouraging sign.
The Fury, who are currently embroiled in a financial crisis, will join forces with Queensland Nickel to provide fans with this rare opportunity.
“Since February, supporters of the Fury have been on a rollercoaster when it comes to the future of the club and the battle still continues,” Fury CEO Rabieh Krayem said.
“But what some people forget is that this football club is only five months old, and what has been achieved in such a small amount of time is simply sensational and the growth opportunities are endless.”
“The Fury is the peoples club, and going forward the Community of North Queensland will own this club. We have the best fans in the country and we are also privileged to have sponsors and partners who share the same values as ourselves and who understand the importance of this football club to the sporting and social landscape of the region.”
“The only thing we are asking supporters for in return is to give a gold coin donation on entry to help raise funds for the club’s official charity, Mission Australia, to them continue their important indigenous programmes throughout North Queensland.”
