Make it a Heart-stopping Wednesday at Dairy Farmers Stadium, as Fury complete a hat-trick of home games by looking to get their own back on Melbourne.
North Queensland Fury will forever be a part of Melbourne Heart folklore, although, as far as the Townsville side are concerned, not for the right reasons. Back in early September, Fury-s visit to AAMI Park resulted in the first ever victory for a home side at that venue.
Heart-s 1-0 win was not only the first clean sheet kept by the Hyundai A-League-s newest side, but, more importantly it heralded their debut win.
Occurring, as it did, in Week 5, the landmark result probably occurred a little too early in the season to be described as a genuine turning point, but there is no denying that Heart have really pushed on and grown in confidence since they triumphed on that rainy night, whereas the loss well and truly signalled the end of Fury-s promising start to their Hyundai A-League 2010/11 campaign.
It-s been a long, hard haul since then.
However, as they have been on many occasions in the Hyundai A-League 2010/11 season, Fury were unlucky to lose that night. After Heart took a early lead through Nick Kalmar, the visitors threw everything including the kitchen sink at the Melbourne goal, but Heart-s stopper Clint Bolton was in unbelievable form.
Unfortunate or not though, after this defeat for Franz Straka-s side, it took them until Week 10 to pick up another win, when the squeezed past equally beleaguered Perth Glory.
Heart, meanwhile, are settling nicely into their inaugural Hyundai A-League season. Having really made AAMI park a hard place to visit, John Van-t Schip-s side finally jumped another hurdle last week with their first ever away victory.
It seems like it-s been a very long time coming, but the 2-0 win against Newcastle was thoroughly deserved and was achieved thanks to Nick Kalmar-s outstanding overhead kick and a penalty from Gerald Sibon.
Fury then, need to beware when facing a team no longer weighed down by the pressure of seeking their first away win, but they have a few weapons that Heart need to watch out for too.
Their descent down the ladder certainly hasn-t been due to a lack of goals, and in David Williams, Chris Payne and Chris Grossman, they have enough firepower to worry any defence in the Hyundai A-league. Heart don-t keep many clean sheets on the road – the recent shutout in Newcastle was their first away from home and only their second ever – so there should be plenty of opportunity for the men in green to add to their tallies.
