The Newcastle Jets have pulled off a major coup by signing former England international Francis Jeffers as a guest player.

Jeffers arrived at the club on Wednesday and the Jets wasted no time in securing the services of the 29-year-old on a 10-week guest stint.

He brings a wealth of experience to the Jets, having played in the English Premier league with Everton and Arsenal and scoring in his only England appearance against the Socceroos in 2003.

“I like what is happening with the club. It is an exciting period here and hopefully I would be able to assist the Jets to climb up the ladder during my time here,” he said.

“The lads and everybody at the club has been great and made me feel welcome from the time I landed and I can’t wait to get going.”

Newcastle coach Branko Culina was delighted to have Jeffers at the club and hopes he can help the younger players with his experience.

“We are excited to have him on board, he is a player with great pedigree who has played at a high level and we hope his experience and knowledge will rub off on many of our younger players.”

Jeffers is expected to be available for the Jets’ home match against Adelaide on Saturday 13 November.
