Melbourne Victory striker Robbie Kruse believes that North Queensland’s early-season form is no fluke and the Fury could become surprise finals challengers this season.
Fury are currently second on the table after last week’s surprise win over defending Hyundai A-League champions Sydney. Things don’t get any easier for Franz Straka’s men with a trip to Melbourne to take on Victory at AAMI Park on Sunday.
However, Kruse, who will play his first game of the year after overcoming a hamstring injury, is by no means underestimating Fury, who he believes are determined to prove those who suggested they wouldn’t be competitive this season wrong.
“The Fury have been doing well. They-ve got a young team up there. I’ve played with a couple of the boys up there when I was at Brisbane. I know them fairly well,” he said.
“They are showing the people who wrote them off at the start of the season that they are going to be a force in the A-League this season.”
Much like it will be Fury’s first trip to AAMi Park, it will be Kruse’s first Hyundai A-League game at the new stadium and it is something he is very much looking forward to.
“I was watching the game last week from the box and it was hard to sit there and watch, Particularly with the crowd buzzing and it was the first game there. This will be my first experience at the new ground and I’m looking forward to hopefully scoring a goal,” he said.
“It-s going to be an enjoyable game, hopefully we get another bumper crowd like last week and hopefully this time we can get the win.”
