The Hyundai A-League’s newest franchise Melbourne Heart has secured a major recruiting coup by luring Qantas Socceroos legend John Aloisi to the club.
Aloisi, 34, joins the club after playing for Sydney FC for the past two seasons.
In joining Heart, Aloisi reunites with coach John van ‘t Schip, who he played alongside at Serie A club Genoa.
Aloisi believes this will be his last season of professional football and he sees his time at the Heart as a transition to a role in coaching.
“There are not many footballers who have played in all three big European leagues. It’s amazing to think that John completed his first season in Italy while I finished the final one of my career,” van ‘t Schip said.
“In my discussions with John he has a great tactical understanding of football and has great opportunity to become a successful coach.”
Aloisi will also link up with former Sydney team-mate Clint Bolton, who signed with the Heart in February.
