Adelaide United’s quest for a drought-breaking win has been dealt a blow with striker Lloyd Owusu travelling to China for a week-long trial with Super League club Guangzhou.

The former Ghanaian international departed for China from Melbourne on Sunday following the Reds’ match against Melbourne Victory last Saturday night.

United agreed to allow Owusu to go for the trial after Guangzhou requested to have a look at the 33-year-old who is keen to see what the Chinese club has to offer.

Owusu is expected to return to Adelaide midway though next week, meaning he will miss Adelaide United’s match against Wellington Phoenix in Christchurch on Saturday.

In better news for the club, Brazilian duo Alemao (hip) and Cassio (calf) will have their fitness tested this week.
